A New Normal Christian Life

Mark 11:23-24 “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”

This is a one powerful statement made by Jesus, the Son of God. So powerful it makes my heart beat a little faster. We, mere mortals, have access to a power beyond this world when we petition our prayers with faith? Really? Move mountains? I’ve heard pastors explain this away as metaphors, with mountains representing the challenges we face in life; or that we need to really ask within God’s will, not just for anything. I don’t disagree, of course, but stopping there does not do justice to the immensity of this claim. Yes, we ought to ask for things that are in God’s will; yes, the mountains could represent life obstacles in a more metaphoric sense TOO… but the statement is unequivocal in that impossible things can be made possible when we pray and ask with faith. Jesus did not say, if you pray hard enough maybe God will listen to you. He actually placed the onus of that power on the person who is praying. He said anyone who “…DOES NOT DOUBT IN THEIR HEARTS…IT WILL HAPPEN, IT WILL BE YOURS”. God is the author of impossibility becoming possible, but we have the keys to that door! How awesome is that. Let’s not just hear this and feel good about it, let’s live it.

In this year’ of New Wineskin, let’s claim this promise with confidence and boldness. Let’s start taking some risks. Let’s redefine a New Normal Christian Life, where we get to live with the realm of Heaven open in our daily lives, with the authority of our Lord Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit which indwells in us. Go out and heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead and proclaim the Kingdom of God!
