Be a Blessing

The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your land, your family, and
your father’s household for the land that I will show you. I will make of you a
great nation and will bless you. I will make your name respected, and you will
be a blessing. – Genesis 12:1-2

The desire to receive some sort of blessing from God comes naturally for many, especially in the Korean church context. At least, that’s been my observation and the bombs of blessing come often from the pulpit as preachers rain down promises of prosperity for those faithful to their church. There is a shade of truth to that promise, as scripture speaks much about  pouring blessing onto those who faithfully follow the commands of God. Abram received
no shortage of blessing from the Lord as he embarked on a journey to a land that was soaked with milk and honey.

The charge to Abram that “you will be a blessing” is a good reminder for us that the Lord’s blessing always has a circular effect. There were certainly instances of Abram receiving blessings in abundance. However, those abundant goods came with purpose, as the intent was to bless others as well. That’s a good way for all of us to start our week as you all prepare for this new phase of lock downs in Korea. Actively pray to find ways to be a blessing and allow certain faces to come to mind who may need some sort of blessing in their life. My guess is that the number of faces will be as vast as the star in the sky, especially in these trying times.

The Lord bless you and keep you all.
