Compelled By Love

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. (2 Corinthians 5:14 NIV)

Christ’s love compels us.

Are you anything like me? Sometimes I go for days without the love of Christ compelling me to do much. My thoughts about my faith become hard to define as it becomes something shrouded in mystery.

“Wait, what am I living for? Why do I believe?”

These are questions that come up when I stop my life and just think for a moment. Do the things I live for really reflect my faith in Christ? What even is my faith in Christ?

It is impossible to define our faith in Christ without thinking upon His love. We cannot separate His love from His character, and His character from His identity. And His love is such that it caused Him to die for all of us.

Therefore, if this love is to be thought about, and this faith is to be what our lives are defined by, then this love must compel us. We have died along with Him at Calvary, and we have been crucified with Him. We no longer live. We are His! We are compelled by His love to remember our death with Him, which in turn compels us to live in His resurrection.

Our entire lives are changed.

This all may seem strikingly obvious to the Christian, but as we live our lives, the obvious things fade into the background. Let us stop today to think upon His love and be compelled by our Saviour once more. Amen.
