Created in His Image

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:26-27

The scripture reminds us that we are created in God’s image. From the very first chapter of Genesis, that was our blueprint and our identity. Our destiny before the fall was to be in that harmonious relationship with our Creator, face to face, ruling over the creation. What does it really mean to be created in His image? Wouldn’t it be to possess the character, the goodness, the wholeness of God?

Yet that identity has suffered a rupture through Adam’s fall, as sin entered his heart, and the result of that seemingly small crack has been all sorts of consequential perversion that has been manifesting throughout this world, as men seeks his own will and desires.

As long as we live in this fallen world, our lives will be like broken pieces of a mirror that we are trying to put together. We certainly can’t see ourselves, and if we can’t see ourselves, we really don’t know who we are…When we finally succeed to put the pieces together (and it won’t be without the marks of its cracks), our hope is that we will see on the other side the image of our Maker reflected in us.

But who will help us put that image back? Who will help us get there? Well… Jesus will, and He did… The God incarnate Himself, literally showed us His face some two thousand years ago, and presented us a palpable picture of God’s character and image on this very earth. How ultimately cosmic and extraordinary that is… That as we put our trust in Him, we can actually be born again, a necessary condition for our shattered image to be recreated in Him…

Wishing everyone a great week, and hoping that you will reflect Christ’s image onto this world…
