Dreams on Eagles’ Wings

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

– Isaiah 40:28-31

This past week, I woke up one morning to the sad news of the passing of legendary rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen. For a middle-aged man who grew up in the 80′s and 90s it was quite melancholic for me. He truly was a guitar virtuoso and rock legend.

One of the most iconic music videos I remember watching as a kid was a video to Van Halen’s song Dreams, which featured the US Navy’s precision flying squadron, the Blue Angels. I recall, as a teenage boy, there was nothing more inspiring than listening to Sammy Hagar belting out, “We’ll get higher and higher, straight up we’ll fly. We’ll get higher and higher, leave it all behind,” while watching the jet streams blast off the tails of the Blue Angels as they crissed and crossed at ridiculously dangerous speeds in mid flight. I mean, what could be more exhilarating to the imagination of a young teenage boy than fighter jets and rock music?

(BTW, the photo above is of the Blue Angels performing something they call “The Hand of God”.)

I think this year has been very tiresome for many of us, and we could all use a little boost of inspiration and exhilaration in our lives. A great passage that I hope inspires you this week is Isaiah chapter 40. Although, I’ve only shared the jet stream tail end of it above, I encourage you to go and read the entire chapter, because it is a message of comfort and encouragement for those of us today who are tired and weary and exhausted in our daily lives.

Frankly, I don’t have any insightful biblical truth or exhortation for you this week. Instead, I simply leave you with 2 things. One, let me repeat for you Isaiah 40:31

but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

I hope we can all find strength in the Lord during these times, and we can soar on wings like eagles!

And two, I’ll leave a link below for the music video for Van Halen’s Dreams! I hope this gives you some positive adrenaline rush and inspires you as much as it still does for me.
