Freedom to Witness

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry,“Abba,[b] Father.”16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Romans 8:14-16

When we accept Jesus as our Savior and one of the first things we receive is freedom – and the Holy Spirit! Hallelujah, praise be to God! We are not left to journey this life on our own but we receive the Counselor who reminds us continuously that we have Hope. We are empowered because God is with us and He is able to do more than we can imagine through us. The Holy Spirit shows us that we had been slaves to worry and fear which very often holds us back from connecting with people and helping those who are in need. When we didn’t know Christ, trying to make sure we can live a good life by the standards of the world was our priority and we slaved away to achieve goals that were dictated by the culture of our age. This was our life and our burden.

But after knowing Jesus, we are shown that there is a whole new way to live and it is a way that does NOT involve worry and fear. We no longer worry because we have a Father who loves us, who is the Creator of the Universe, and who is our Provider. We no longer fear because we are forgiven, accepted, healed, loved and rescued from death. This is our new reality and we now become part of an eternal kingdom of freed people.

How then can we become a witness of this? In other words, how can we let others know of this Truth? First of all, we should tell people. There is power in sharing our story of how we came to know Jesus. In our story we can hear Christ’s presence.

We should also start to make kingdom choices, placing character and integrity over money and position. We should choose to express kindness to others rather than trying to be better than them. We should also show more concern for strangers and have empathy for those who are suffering. Our sacrifice to help others brings forth new life.

And we should also show our faith and trust in Jesus as a community of believers for the culture to see. Our love for one another in humility and service shows that we don’t fear that we’ll hurt each other.

Being a witness for Christ involves all aspects of our lives becoming transformed and embodying a new reality that is full of hope and freedom. The Christian life is exciting, dynamic, and peaceful, all at the same time because we are given opportunities to exercise faith and take risks yet can be free of anxiety because it is the Holy Spirit who is leading us and taking on the burden of making everything turn out right.

I encourage you this week to contemplate different ways you can share about Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you!

Have a wonderful week!
