God Gives, But We Must Possess It

See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the LORD swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.” Deuteronomy 1:8

When Moses was leading Israel through the desert, God gave Canaan as their promised land, a land “flowing with milk and honey” the scripture describes. But this land, which the Lord gave, was not presented to Israel in a silver platter where they could just enter as they arrived. Canaan was inhabited by other nations, stronger nations. The scripture recounts “But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” (Numbers 13:28-29). God commanded Israel to possess this land by defeating these powerful and stronger enemies. And He urged Israel to be courageous and not to fear, for the Lord would be with them through the conquest. Ultimately, only Caleb and Joshua, who trusted in the Lord were able to enter the Promised Land.

What is your Promised Land that God has given you? He will certainly not give you in a silver platter. Do you have the courage to possess it? Do you have the faith that God will be with you in your pursuit to conquer it?
