His Story

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6)

A few years ago, my friend and I were asked to watch the cutest one year old baby while her mom when to pick up her older sister from school. Despite our best efforts to keep her entertained, she gravitated towards a more familiar face and kept reaching to him to get his attention.

He took her and put her in his lap and then carried on with his work on the computer. She was quite content, and started flipping through a book. At one point she struggled to turn the pages until he looked down to help her.

The image of these two in my mind, reminded me of us and our Father.

There have been many times I’ve sat down with a toddler to read a book and discovered that they’re more interested in the pictures than the actual words. I’ll be reading a book and they’ll wait for you to turn the page because they trust you to know when to turn the page. But other times they’ll try to turn the page before you’re done reading because they’re not that interested in allowing the story to unfold, rather they’d rather see what’s next.

God has marked out the ultimate and greatest story of all time. His plans, His timing and His ways are perfect. Our Father is the only One who knows our beginning in our end, but more often than not sometimes we’re eager to see what’s on the next page instead of allowing Him to speak and reveal His story in our lives in the present.

That moment was a reminder to me that our heavenly Father is constantly at work. Our job is to sit in His lap, and trust him to work out His story in us and let Him turn the pages.
