Iron Sharpens Iron

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens
. (Proverbs 27:17)

And let us consider how we may spur one another
on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in
the habit of doing, but encouraging one another – and all the more as you see
the Day approaching
(Hebrews 10:24-25)

God has shown us the importance of living in fellowship and community with others, and for us to continue to sharpen and be sharpened by others. Today’s world often promotes individualism; however, we were not created for a solitary life. God created us to be in relationship with one another. Jesus himself chose to live in community with his disciples.

Being in a community with other Christians allows us to build friendships that can encourage each other when we are going through trials and tribulations. Friends can help us to remain faithful, obedient, and accountable. Iron sharpening is not always easy, but the benefits in our walk with Christ are immense.

It can often be hard to cultivate new friendships and our lives can be so hectic with many competing demands on our time such that we often neglect the importance of taking friendships seriously.

Let’s pray for our communities at Church and how the bonds of friendship within those communities can be further strengthened. Let’s pray for overcoming barriers to new friendships forming. Let’s pray for friendships that glorify God, and let’s consider how we can motivate and support one another in our communities on this journey together, seeking to be more like Christ.

Have a blessed week all.
