It is Finished

John 19:28~30

Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

For many, this past week signified Passion Week.  It was a week that started with peaceful palms and finished with a glorious resurrection.  Though there are a few different suggestions for the name, the week is rightfully titled as it displays the Lord’s passion in willingly going to the cross for the sins of all mankind.  To me, there is no other word that could possibly personify the emotions of Jesus…”Passion.”

Back in 2005, The Passion of the Christ was released.  There was much controversy about the movie from a range of critics, both Christian and non-Christian alike, but one thing evidently remained.  It was the most vivid account of our Lord’s crucifixion to every hit the silver screen.

In 2011, a Christian musician came to our school during our week-long revival and sang for us his most recent release.  The artist’s name was Matt Papa, and the song was called It is Finished.  And as the title suggests, it is a song about Jesus’s last days.

Every Passion Week, I experience a range of emotions.  Joy, fear, pride, anger, and sadness are just to name a few.  But one thing I never fail to do every year is watch the It is Finished music video.  For me, all those emotions that I experience get wrapped up in one powerful 4-minute video.  But as much as the lyrics and the video communicate…this song, this week, and our Saviour are all messages of hope.  Can I get an “Amen?”

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone.  Because I know He holds the future, And life is worth the living, just because He lives.

He is Risen.  He is Risen indeed!

Happy Easter Everyone.
