Journey Off The Map

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” -Isaiah 30:21

Suppose that you set out on a journey to a place no one has visited. There are no maps or paths, and it’s up to you to chart the territory. What obstacles might you encounter? wild animals, quicksand, white water rapids? After all journey ahead is unknown to us. But the good news is that we have faithful, dependable trustworthy Guide to help us every step of the way. It’s Jesus.

2015 Jubilee Vacation Bible School was held June 18 to June 20, under the theme “Journey off the map”. During the three days VBS kids went on a Journey to learn to know their guide, follow their guide and trust their guide. One of creative ways that we took for teaching children the lesson effectively was drama. I want to introduce few lines from the drama script that nailed down the theme. It is written by Penelope Kim.

Jae: Well, everyone gets stuck sometimes along their journey through the wilderness, even a professional guide like me! And when we do get stuck, the real test is not if you can get out by your own strength. The test is if you can stop yourself from worrying and freaking out by following the wisdom of the Bible and trusting Jesus and praying for His help.

CeCe: So even when you get stuck, you pray for Jesus’ help?

Jae: Yes I do, just like Peter, and Paul, and all of Jesus’ followers do everywhere. We get to know Jesus and the Bible, and we pray to Jesus about all kinds of things, any time we want to. And we believe that He can help us. Jesus is amazing.

Ollie: With everything I’ve been hearing, I’m really starting to see that Jesus is amazing, too. I’ve never heard of anyone like Him!

CeCe: I always went to church and listened, but now I really understand how much Jesus loves me and is here to save me!

Jae: That is so great, you guys. Let’s go back to camp and have one last dinner and relax, and we can talk more about all you’ve learned. I love talking about Jesus!

CeCe: Thanks for rescuing us, Jae!

Ollie: Yeah, thanks, Jae, and let’s keep talking. I have sooo many questions!

(All three walk off together.)

I hope and pray this week you would set out on a journey to know more about Him 🙂
