Lent 2015 – Day 11

Prayer Topic: Cultivating a hunger and thirst for God

Scripture Readings: You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole body longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. (Psalm 63:1)

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. (Deuteronomy 8:3)

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.  Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”  By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.  Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. (John 7:37-39)
