Let’s Run!

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Lately, I’ve been trying to exercise more to get healthy and have more energy. With the many different responsibilities I have before me, I feel the need to somehow produce more energy if I am going to keep up! Rather than trying to find the right gym, I decided to make use of all the YouTube exercise videos out there – which have been really great! One of the things one of the online instructors say from time to time is, “At this point, you should be pushing yourself and you shouldn’t be able to talk to anyone or do anything else other than focus on the move you are doing.” The intensity of the activity requires focus and distractions will mess you up.

I’m not sure if many of us realize it but this is how the Christian life is as well. It requires full focus and intensity and if you are engaging in it properly, you should not be able to focus on anything else. It is an all or nothing activity and proper engagement means transformation.

Running requires being fully engaged. When you’re running, it’s hard to start a different activity simultaneously. Yes, some runners listen to music or drink water or have a snack while running but’s only to enhance their running or to allow them to keep running. All activities support the main focus, which is running. In this way, our jobs, our social life, and even our family life is not our main focus. If following Jesus is your main focus, all other activities should be supporting this or connected to it somehow.

Living the Christian life is not something you can only be partially doing. You have to do full force or you might find that you’re not really doing it at all anymore. Either you are following Jesus, fixing your eyes on Him, or you’re not.

So let’s engage in our faith full force and run this race with our eyes on Jesus! Our prize is a transformed life where we are healthier and stronger bringing the reality of the Kingdom and eternal life to the world we live in today.

Have a wonderful week!
With love.
