Love Thy Neighbor

“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’”

Matthew 22:36-40

In Seoul, like any big city, it can be very impersonable, and it seems particularly easy to not know your neighbors despite living near them for years, and easy to not be open and welcoming to new people without even thinking. I have been reminded of this at Jubilee in this particularly transitory time of year after the summer break.

Let us pray for a warm welcoming heart to all those new in our community, and to our neighbors outside of our Jubilee community. Let us pray for help to be conscious of simple things that can make a big difference, such as exchanging simple greetings, looking for opportunities to get to know people, learning and remembering names, smiling, being observant about needs, extending invitations to a meal or activity, and praying for others.
