Music in Worship

Will sing of your love and justice; to you, LORD, I will sing praise. (Psalm 101:1)

This past Sunday, after introducing the worship team, Pastor Dave gave a short sermon about the role that music has in worship, how music has this cosmic and magic role of integrating body, mind and spirit, in enriching the experience of worship, uplifting the spirit, and evoking emotions that only music can.

At the end of the sermon, he asked us to pull out our phones and login to our Jubilee app, so we could submit our very favorite worship song to the church. As a man in my 50’s, I had been mostly touched by the music of the 90’s, as I was first coming to Christ, and a song immediately came to mind, that definitely had and still has a special place in my heart, that to this day when it is played it evokes emotions and uplifts my spirit into the presence of the Lord.

The song is called “Lord, I Offer My Life” by Don Moen.

Jubilee’s congregation being so young (I recall our community’s average is still in its early 30’s), many of our members might actually no know this song, so I wanted to share it here. The lyrics are great, but it does not do justice without the music that accompanies it. So while my devotional is short, I hope the song (attached link)  moves and brings you closer to His Presence this week.

(Verse 1)
All that I am, all that I have
I lay them down before you, oh Lord
All my regrets, all my acclaims
The joy and the pain, I’m making them yours

(Chorus)
Lord, I offer my life to you
Everything I’ve been through
Use it for your glory
Lord I offer my days to you
Lifting my praise to you
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer you my life

(Verse 2)
Things in the past, things yet unseen
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true
All of my heart, all of my praise
My heart and my hands are lifted to you

(Chorus)
Lord, I offer my life to you
Everything I’ve been through
Use it for your glory
Lord I offer my days to you
Lifting my praise to you
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer you my life

(Bridge)
What can we give
That you have not given?
And what do we have
That is not already yours?
All we possess
Are these lives we’re living
That’s what we give to you, Lord

(Chorus)
Lord, I offer my life to you
Everything I’ve been through
Use it for your glory
Lord I offer my days to you
Lifting my praise to you
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer you my life

(Chorus)
Lord, I offer my life to you
Everything I’ve been through
Use it for your glory
Lord I offer my days to you
Lifting my praise to you
As a pleasing sacrifice
Lord I offer you my life
Lord I offer you my life
