Nearness of God

There are seasons in my life when my soul is so distressed, that I become completely paralyzed. My faith is so diminished and my heart so unsettled, that I have a hard time even going to church or listening to sermons. Have you had times like that, even as a “mature” Christian?

But even in those times,I am reminded that despite my lack of faith, God is always faithful. And I am personally mostly reminded of this through the book of Psalms. I might be shut to the words of wisdom from Ecclesiastes, written by Solomon in his lofty palace, but the words of King David, written in a hideout cave thanking God for his personal deliverance, for his faithfulness in his promises, those words I hold on to.

And whether it’s a brother sharing psalm 27 to specifically encourage me, or another friend sending a group email to share his devotional on Psalm 145, or a daily scripture of an app that serendipitously leads me to Psalm 18, I feel the nearness of God in the cosmic and timeless words of Psalm. God is near, even when we think He is far.

Today I share with you Psalm 143:5-8.

I remember the days of long ago;

   I meditate on all your works
and consider what your hands have done.
6 I spread out my hands to you;
I thirst for you like a parched land.

7 Answer me quickly, Lord;
my spirit fails.
Do not hide your face from me
or I will be like those who go down to the pit.
8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.

God Bless.
