Remain In My Love

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. John 15:9-14

I love plants and learning God’s wisdom from them. I feel like there is so many hidden wisdom of God about life. Recently I’ve noticed something. When there are flowers on the plant, I need to water the plant more often and when there are fruits, then I need to not only water it but also give more nourishment.

Jesus said in this passage that He received love from the Father, and He loved us with the love that he received. And He said if we remain in His love and obey Him, our joy may be full. And then He shared His commandment, that we need to love one another as Jesus loved us. We can only give what we have. Jesus knew that He needed that love from God that is the Source of love in order to love us. And He taught us to receive His love in order for us to give love to those around us.

I’m so glad that being Christian is not about suffering while serving like some other religions. I’m thankful that I can actually drink the cup of His affection and the overflow of love can be the ministry that I do. How liberating it is to know that we don’t have to try harder to create the love that we don’t have! When we try to give when we are not filled, it will end up drying us or forcing us to create artificial love. But the good news is that we have this access to the Ultimate Source of Love, our Father in heaven. His love never dries out. It keeps coming if our arms are open wide and inviting. The very nature of who God is is love! As we draw ourselves near Him and ask Him to show His love for us, He truly will. As we position ourselves like a cup that is to contain water, He will pour out His love and heart in us and it will overflow. The living fresh water that heals all the disease, broken-hearted and distorted thinking can be delivered to this hungry world by us being that cup. The cup that received and overflows!

If you are tired of giving, serving, and loving, be at the feet of Jesus today and simply ask Him to show His love and affection to you. Receive first, and then give. You will be able to give joyfully.

My prayer for us is that we would continue to learn to posture our hearts to receive and accept His love so that we may overflow.
