Stuck in a Moment

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on whta is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

Recently, I’ve had this song stuck in my head, but not in an annoying “I can’t get it out of my head” kind of a way, but in a good “It feels fresh and encouraging” kind of way. It’s the old U2 song called Stuck in a Moment.

This summer has been a good and productive one in many ways for me, but it’s also been a long one in other ways. If you recall, at the start of the summer Pastor Tony stepped down and he and his family have left for the US, Pastor Dave and Pastor Judy went on sabbatical for 3 months, and then also Pastor Larry Campbell and his family also moved to the US in June. That’s 4 pastors gone from staff in like a couple of weeks to start the summer. As a result, things have been interesting, to say the least.

On a positive note, I got a chance to preach regularly on Sundays, and I’ve learned a lot from that experience. I also got a chance to oversee the whole church over the summer, too, which was taught me a lot.

But, to be honest, toward the end of the summer, I think it started to take a toll on me. Just this past week, I tried to take a couple of days off to recharge, but with life groups starting up this week, even though I wasn’t in the office for most of the week, I still did a lot of work remotely on my phone. It was nice to take a couple of days, but it wasn’t as restful as I was hoping it to be.

But, throughout the summer, I’ve had this U2 song stuck in my head, and it’s been good for me. Actually, my kids watched Sing 2 like 15 times over the summer, and this song is part of the movie, so you might think I’d be sick of it by now, but I’ve really enjoyed it… not the Sing 2 version, but the original U2 version.

And it’s been a good reminder for me that although in this world, life can be tiresome and hard, and you feel like you can’t get rest sometimes, and you might even start to feel a bit worn out, you can’t get stuck in those moments, but you have to keep moving. And how do you do that? You keep putting your faith and trust in God. And you keep looking forward to the unseen things that are eternal. And you take one step at a time every day. We are all just here for a brief moment, and we should make the most of it, but let’s not get stuck in it.

In my conversations with people in the past couple of weeks, many people seem to be getting back from their vacations and getting back into the flow of regular life again. And as they do, it’s like they are stuck trying to get back into the rhythm of things. But instead of beings stuck, let’s keep turning to God this week to keep moving forward… forward to the things that are eternal. May your faith and devotion to God keep you from getting stuck this week.

P.S. Here’s the YouTube link to the song. I hope you enjoy it and it brings a smile to your face today.
