I just turned 50 last week and what an event it was!  I got to play golf three straight days with three closest friends in my life.  Then I got to spend a long weekend with my wife and son swimming and playing at a poolside villa.  Great memories I will cherish for a long long time.  I’ve never imagined myself being 50 nor imagined of myself being a 50-year old man growing up.  Wow, that sounds so weird to see myself that old.  A 50-year old man growing up was a ahjussi (아저씨)!  I guess I am one now.

In retrospect, what would I tell a 10-year old myself how my life will be by the time I turn a “half century” old?  I would tell him, praise God!!  God has been so so good to me and I can’t complain about a single thing.  I have a loving wife and a beautiful son who fulfilled all the wishes I had growing up.  I have a family of my own.  God has blessed me more than I had asked for or imagined.  Of course I wished I had played in the NBA as the first Korean-American basketball player and played for the Dallas Cowboys to win multiple Super Bowls!  Instead, God gave me 50 amazing years of amazing experiences and life I will not change for any of the above!  Thank you God!!   God in His infinite wisdom and grace has blessed a Korean boy from nowhere to be educated in the US, meet a loving Taiwanese-American girl, cherished us with a sweet boy and moved us across the world back to Korea where he was born to serve and love friends from the North in a community full of God-loving brothers and sisters!   How could I ever dreamt up such a perfect script?

During this season of Thanksgiving, I would like to encourage you to be thankful for the perfect and blessed life God has given you.  Let us not look to the have-nots but focus on what our Lord has done for us.  That is to give us the freedom to live without bondage, grace to share with the world around you and the eternal life to praise Him for all the days!  Hallelujah.
